For the Girl Tour

Over the weekend, Delight Akron travelled to Michigan to attend the Delight For the Girl Tour. The event was all about relationships and how to navigate them with Jesus being your number one focus. It was a truly inspiring night filled with tears and laughter and love; love for love, love for those around us, and, most importantly, love for God and Christ.

Twenty Delight Akron girls packed into cars and made the three hour journey to listen to Mac and Kenz, the Delight founders, speak and to worship. The main message was having a fully open heart for Jesus. We have to pursue Him first, and when we do everything else in our lives will fall into place.

For me, the event was inspiring, and I definiltey got so much out of it. But where I felt God most this weekend wasn’t taking notes during sermons. It was in the smallest moments.

For the ride up to Michigan, I was in what we called “The Bonding Car.” There were five of us and we asked get-to-know-you questions. The nearly four hour drive seemed like minutes as we all talked and laughed with questions that were both deep and silly. We arrived feeling like we really knew each other. Again in the car, after the conference and on our way back to our cabin, we had more serious conversations. We sat in the driveway outside and just talked about the things pulling at our heart.

The moment I felt God the most was worshipping in the cabin at 2am. Our fearless worship leader, Katie, strummed on her guitar as we all piled onto bunk beds together and just sang. The atmosphere was so pure. We were all dead tired, in our pajamas, and surrounded by white Christmas lights (Delight girls are all about aesthetic). But yet there we were worshipping the Lord. So much love filled that room; for each other and for Jesus. The Holy Spirit’s presence was undeniable.

What I walked away with this weekend, and what God has shown me so much lately, is that community is so important. We are called to follow Jesus, but we are not called to do it alone. We are truly blessed to have these people that are willing to walk with us on this journey. Delight has been an amazing source of community and love that reflects just a fraction of what God has in store for us.

If you are struggling or feel like you have no community reach out. Reach out to God. Reach out to your local ministires. You can even reach out to me. Build your community, even if that means starting from the ground up. I know I cannot wait to continue to build mine.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” Matthew 18:20

Always,

Emily
