What if My Prayers Delay My Blessing?

There were some things I wanted so badly that I hesitated to pray about them.

My requests were specific. I knew what I wanted and when I wanted it. I had the timeline mapped and even had a few ideas about how I’d like everything to fall into place.

I told God about these things, but what I didn’t want to surrender to Him was the waiting.

I believed if I:

Prayed for patience, He’d make me wait longer

Prayed for contentment, He’d have me get used to going without

Prayed for His will, my desires would be forgotten

My thinking was flawed, to say the least, but I bet I’m not alone. My belief was that if God was about to bless me, but I prayed for something like contentment or patiences, He’d withhold it. As if He would say “Ooh, you were about to get it, but because of that prayer I’ll adjust the calendar.”

I had to come back to what I know is true about God. He cares for our desires, He works all things for our good, and He wastes nothing.

It doesn’t mean we’ll get everything we want, but it means that He’s good and we can trust Him with all of our prayers.

What prayer are you holding close to your chest, afraid to release it? I invite you to lay it down, release your grasp. Trust God with everything—especially what you care about most.

“If you then though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11

Always,

Emily
